Dealing with “Difficult” Children

-Observe | Follow the Child

-Offer Freedom Within Limits

-Acknowledge Strong Emotions

*Aiding children to understand their emotions and the effects of their behavior is similar to aiding them in all areas of the classroom.

Mastering Parent Communication

To better our relationships with parents, master four steps:

  1. Get to know your audience — who is this person in front of you, what is his/her context?

  2. Know your purpose — what is your actual goal, what do you want to accomplish?

  3. Adapt your message/action — what will you say given your audience and purpose?

  4. Reflect & iterate — what did you learn and how will you apply it next time around?

At all times try to have empathy, for parents and for yourself.
